Editorial Standards
How Air Support Desk fact-checks, researches, sources, updates and corrects its travel guides, and how editorial independence is protected.
Fact Checking
Every factual claim in a guide is checked by someone other than its author. The reviewer works from the claim back to the source, not from the source forward to the claim, because that is the direction in which errors are visible.
Claims that cannot be traced to a source are either removed or explicitly labelled as operational experience.
Research Process
Research begins with the authority that sets the rule and ends with a written note recording where each statement came from. Where a rule varies by carrier or region, at least three operators are checked before we describe anything as usual practice.
Where practice is genuinely inconsistent, the guide says so instead of presenting an average as a fact.
Sources
Our source hierarchy is fixed: government and border authorities first, then aviation regulators, then carrier conditions of carriage and fare rules, then airport operators, and only then documented practitioner experience.
Other publications are used to find leads. They are never cited as evidence.
Updates
Guides carry a review date. Document and entry topics are reviewed most frequently, disruption and refund topics next, and stable navigation topics least often.
A credible reader report of a rule change triggers an immediate out-of-cycle review.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we correct it and say so, with a date and a short description of what changed. We do not silently rewrite claims that readers may already have relied on.
Corrections are treated as normal editorial work. Reporting an error in your own guide is expected behaviour here, not a failure.
Transparency
Every guide shows its desk, its reading time, and its quick answer before any explanation. Limits on an answer, nationality, carrier, region, appear in the quick answer rather than in a footnote.
Our editorial rules are published in full so that readers can hold us to a written standard rather than a tone.
Editorial Independence
No airline, airport, booking platform or insurer pays for coverage, placement, ordering or wording, and no commercial party reviews a guide before publication. There is no advertising sales function in this company.
The person who writes a guide is never the person who approves it, and reviewers have the authority to block publication outright.
The formal version of these rules is published as our Editorial Policy. Report an error through the contact page.
